Thomas Barrett, PhD, will present his work on mourning in children who have experienced the death of a parent. Dr. Barrett will convey his theoretical ideas in the context of presenting clinical material from a child analysis. Clinical material from work with an adult patient whose mother died during his childhood will be presented as well. Group participation in the exploration of related issues will be incorporated into the evening's lecture.

  

Dr. Barrett is the Executive and Clinical Director of the Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development and an Associate Professor at the CASE School of Medicine. He holds degrees in Child Development and Clinical Psychology and undertook post-graduate training in Infant Mental Health with Prof. Selma Fraiberg. His work with Erna Furman on the Hanna Perkins toddler research project culminated in the publication Toddlers and Their Mothers. Dr. Barrett presents regularly at national and international conferences.
