Lunch & Learns: successful, exciting collaboration

CPI and The Children’s Home of Cincinnati have engaged in collaboration over the past two years, bringing together the psychoanalytic understanding of the child’s inner world and the variety of services provided to children. Over the past eight months, this has included a series of “Lunch and Learn” programs in which a discussion relevant to the understanding of children has been co-led by a Children’s Home staff member and a CPI faculty member or candidate. These sessions were prompted by the very successful collaborative lectures by Dr. Jack Novick and his wife, Kerry Kelly Novick, in 2008.
In February, Mr. Brett Clarke and Ms. Karen Mumford led a discussion of psychodynamic concepts in early childhood development, followed, in May, by a discussion on the use play for assessment and intervention led by Dr. Sydney Anderson and Glenda Conyers. Most recently, on August 21st, Ms. Anissa Hollopeter and Dr. Ed Kohn led a discussion on the use of children’s drawings as a therapeutic tool. All of these “Lunch and Learn” programs have been well attended with active discussion. It has been a learning experience for participants and discussion leaders that we plan to continue in the coming year.
