The Tillie Krug Child Analytic Program The
Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute continues to move towards a totally
integrated child/adult curriculum. We
believe such an integrated program benefits all candidate education.
Furthermore, an integrated program provides the optimal understanding of
the development of the mind and, with that, a better sense of the formation of
character traits, a better appreciation of the evolution of dynamic conflict,
and a better view of psychopathology grounded in its developmental origins.
The mutual influences of adult and child analysis enhance our
understanding of all analytic technique, all analytic process.
The analytic view of man and woman from infancy to senescence should be
seamless. In
addition to the curriculum described above, child candidates take one additional
seminar and one child clinical conference.
The didactic seminar lasts for 2½ to 3 years and focuses on a number of
topics including technique of child analysis, child psychopathology, and
concepts and technique of adolescent analysis.
Other clinical issues in child/adolescent analysis such as working with
parents, termination, and consultation are also studied.
A child candidate participates in the clinical conference throughout
his/her child candidacy. The
Tillie Krug Child Analytic Program also will develop and offer opportunities for
child candidates to participate in infant and child observation at various
settings. Furthermore, the role of
child analyst as consultant to the community on various levels and in various
ways is seen as an important and vital aspect of one’s identity as a child
analyst.
Three child cases are required of which at least two must be latency or pre-latency age. The child candidate is also required to analyze three adult cases instead of the usual four. In effect one child case substitutes for the fourth adult case. Any time after the start of his/her first adult case, a child candidate can begin analytic work with a child.
